The Role of School-Home-Visit on Academic Achievement and Parents' Involvement in School Life: A Literature Review

Abstract

This narrative review aims to review the publications between 2001 and 2024 in OECD members about home visits and to analyze the results of those studies regarding the effects of home visits on academic achievement and parent involvement. For this purpose, 69 peer-reviewed and 5 gray publications were identified after searching electronic databases and examining the references of accessed articles. 18 peer-reviewed articles met the inclusion criteria. According to the findings of the articles examined as a result of the content analysis, teachers get to know students better through home visits and thus individualize teaching according to the student, positively affecting academic achievement. In addition, home visits foster positive relationships, indirectly boosting academic achievement and enhancing parent involvement. They create awareness, overcome hesitations, and increase parental engagement
